WING PIN TWIN – BOARD TALK
"By combining the wing pin outline with modern twin and quad options, this mid-length releases fast, pivots tight, and still holds when the wave gets critical."
– JOEL FITZ.
The Wing Pin Twin is a refined mid-length design, shaped from decades of R&D testing, board design evolution, and hands-on surfboard building.
Originally popularised in the early 1970s by shapers such as Dick Brewer, Gerry Lopez, and Terry Fitzgerald, the wing pin concept allows the board to release more easily between turns by effectively shortening the rail line. This design encourages tighter pivots in the pocket while improving hold in critical sections by reducing tail area under the back foot.
This modern interpretation pairs the classic wing pin outline with twin fin or quad fin configurations, a subtle rocker profile for increased paddle power and early entry speed, and a medium-low rail. A slight vee entry transitions into concave with spiral vee out through the tail, enhancing rail-to-rail transitions and maintaining control at higher speeds. The result is a versatile mid-length that excels in small, low-energy waves, yet comes alive as a fast, barrel-hunting craft when conditions turn on.
