Joel Fitzgerald was born and raised on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, Australia. He is the son of Terry Fitzgerald—master craftsman and founder of Hot Buttered Surfboards. Growing up in the HB shaping bay, Joel learned his craft early, refining both his surfing and shaping while honing his style at North Narrabeen Beach alongside his brothers.

A freethinker and artisan, Joel is a true soul surfer. Among his peers and fellow shapers, he is widely respected as an innovator and a highly skilled surfboard craftsman. With a lifetime spent in the surfing industry, Joel has travelled the world as a professional surfer and shaper, driven by a deep enjoyment in creating wave-riding crafts for those who share a connection to the ocean.
